Galanthus is the Latin name

Is that still snow on the ground? No - just a visual illusion created by thousands of snowdrops. We love to take a walk in the park of Versailles before the vernal equinox to admire the snowdrop carpets there.

With 'Schneeglöckchen' (German for 'little snow bell') and 'perce-neige' (French for 'piercing the snow') the qualities of this delicate wild flower are accurately described. Despite the freezing days they grow and unfold and delight and - smell surprisingly sweet.
